Health and Nursing Services

Health Services provides a variety of health-related programs to district students. Annually, EGUSD school nurses screen children for vision and hearing problems. Health Services also provides health counseling for students, staff, and parents, including communicable disease control.

School Nurses

EGUSD School Nurses are baccalaureate prepared RNs with additional training and education who choose to practice nursing and promote health in the school setting.  School nurses collaborate with families, physicians, counselors, psychologists, and other members of the school team to advocate for children and enrich their learning.  School nurses promote health and safety at school through various activities, including conducting health screenings and assessments, managing acute and chronic health conditions, performing health education and training, and monitoring communicable diseases and immunization programs in collaboration with Sacramento County Public Health Department.  The credentialed school nurse is often the only health professional a child may encounter for health needs.

Vision Statement

EGUSD School Nurses support an environment for growing, thriving, learning, and promoting self-care for all students.

Teen Parent Program (TPP)

Teen Parent Program (TPP)

EGUSD’s Teen Parent Program (TPP) provides resources,
education and case management support to pregnant and parenting students within the district. The Teen Parent Program operates out of the Health Services Office. Support is provided to teen Moms and Dads. TPP staff will meet with students to assess their individual needs and develop a plan for ongoing support. This includes linking students to health care services, mental health supports, baby/childcare classes, and other local resources. TPP staff also work to ensure that all teen parents have an educational plan during and post-pregnancy.
